One of the most interesting findings from the BePacMan stakeholder research was a clear perception gap.
In our survey:
β 100% of the e-commerce respondents believed customers were unlikely to return packaging.
But when we asked consumers:
β 73.3% said they would definitely or probably return packaging if convenient return options were available.
And:
β 92.4% would accept receiving an order in a reused box.
That changes the question.
Maybe the biggest challenge is not convincing people to reuse packaging.
Maybe it is designing a system that makes reuse easy for consumers and economically viable for businesses.
Return points. Reverse logistics. Packaging design. Incentives. Tracking. Business models.
There is a lot to figure out β and that is exactly why we need businesses at the table.
