On 16 December 2025, the BePacMan project organised an international webinar dedicated to the legal and policy frameworks shaping the future of reusable packaging systems in Europe. The online event was organised by the Gdańsk University of Technology and gathered project partners, legal experts and stakeholders interested in circular packaging solutions.
The webinar explored how current and upcoming regulations influence the development of reusable packaging models and circular economy solutions.
Policy context for circular packaging
The discussion focused on both European and national regulations affecting packaging systems, including the upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and national waste management legislation.
Participants discussed how regulatory frameworks shape packaging design, recyclability requirements, labelling obligations and producer responsibilities.
The webinar highlighted that legal frameworks are not only a regulatory requirement but also a key factor determining which circular solutions can be implemented successfully.
From recycling to reuse
Another important topic of the webinar was the transition from recycling-focused systems to broader circular economy models that include packaging reuse.
Experts presented examples of sustainable packaging solutions and discussed how businesses can adapt their operations to comply with new regulatory requirements while improving environmental performance.
The session concluded that understanding legal frameworks will be essential for companies planning to implement reusable packaging systems and for ensuring that new solutions developed within the BePacMan project remain compliant with future European legislation.
